"Popularist Bebek" restaurant lighting design
The "Populist" restaurant is located in Bebek, a complex neighborhood in the city of Istanbul.
The "Populist" restaurant is located in Bebek, a complex neighborhood in the city of Istanbul. Two years ago, Barcelona-based design firm Lagranja Design took on an ambitious project in Istanbul. The challenges of the project included the transformation of Turkey's first beer company into a modern brewery with an industrial look. The design is inspired by the graphic language of the Prohibition era, and the end result is "populist". This restaurant in the Bomonti area has been voted the best place to relax in Istanbul by "Time Out".
The restaurant is divided into six areas, cashier, hall, bar, leisure area, dining table area, corridor area, the lighting of 6 different areas is controlled by vtecklite's VT-B203 6-zone pwm dimmer, by adjusting the brightness of different areas With the combination of lighting angles and light sources, 6 different scenes are created. The lights in the whole restaurant are controlled by the remote control VT-B203 at the cashier. Different areas are equipped with different numbers of VT-B253 receivers according to the wattage of the lamps. Individual control of individual areas, individual control of individual areas or light control of all areas can be achieved. At different time points, different scenes are set to create a comfortable dining environment for the restaurant.
Now, Lagranja Design has completed a second restaurant under the same brand. The site where the new restaurant is located was originally a villa with a garden in an affluent neighborhood along Bosphorus Avenue.
In the "Popularist Bebek" project, the designer designed the lighting to be delicate and dreamy in order to adapt to the characteristics of the neighborhood.
The beer sold in the restaurant was brewed by the first "populist", and the design team took this as inspiration and came up with the key element of the design: "dream beer machine". This is a sculptural installation mounted on the ceiling that simulates the process of beer making while providing lighting.
Sculptural installations on the ceiling allude to architectural interventions in the two-story winery, using continuously changing lighting to create different atmospheres. At night, they dance to the rhythm of music in the winery.
The bar is treated as a single geometric block, in which many elements are integrated, which are illuminated by LED lights, which emphasize the volume of the bar.
The neon text is meant to evoke the disobedience that came with rebelling against the crowd during the Prohibition era. The design reflects the protests in a clear and playful aesthetic with strong food and drink-related slogans. Bold messages will provoke outrage and force people to meet their needs. However, these words cannot be taken literally, they also contain sarcasm and humor, such as "raise my glass", "fight for your fries", "hamburger is the answer" and so on. The neon uses white light, so that the text is clearly visible and not too exaggerated, so that the focus remains on the overall space. Like paintings, these slogans add energy to the design and allow users to feel comfortable in a friendly environment.
The toilet is integrated into the whole project. White neon signs are used as guideposts, and each bathroom has a fun neon sign. The text is covered with stained glass, and its surface becomes a mirror when illuminated by the light from the rear. Overall lighting is provided by pipes and lighted elements on the "Dream Beer Machine".
