Buying Guide of RGB Controllers and Remotes

The Buying Guide of RGB Controllers and Remotes from vtecklite will help you choose the best RGB controller according to your needs.

Meaning of RGB

The RGB color model (RGB) stands for the element tri-color Red,Green,Blue, in which the three basic colors are added together in various ways to reproduce different colors from which you can choose on your remote. As we know in our natural world,  Red, Green and Blue can range in a specific array and combinaiton in intensity and can be combined to obtain any colors in the color's spectrum. Let's get to learn a new wording relating to “Multi Color” which is another term for RGB.

Types of RGB Controllers and Remotes

Besides the wired controller that has no remote, RGB controllers come in four types of communication protocol between the remote and the controller.

1.    IR (Infra Red) is the most economical remote / controller communication protocol available. It has a short range (about 5m) and the remote needs to be in direct line with a sensor. Weak signal penetration, weak transimission, the IR signal usually gets reflected or lost while ostacles in between. Cheap option of a RGB control.  in other word This controller is simple and economical. It requires line of sight, meaning that the control signal cannot pass through walls or other obstacles. Control distance is about 5m.

2.    RF (Radio Frequency) is a more practical and evolved protocol. It has a range of up to 30m and allows the user to hide their controller as the remote does not need to be in line of sight of the controller. Great signal pentration ability. RF RGB LED controller. Convenient and reliable. RF LED controllers send signals that can go through obstacles such as walls. It can have multi-zone control function. The control distance is 30m. In addition in light control field, the radio frequency mainly comes in 434MHZ, 868hz, 2.4GHZ. in N America, 434MHZ is used, in Europe 868mhz is used, 2.4G is used worldwide.

Nowadays more and more people choose the RF controller as it is a more powerful option in comparison.

Let's brief RF controller

Controller capacity

We usually come accross the low priced 6A controller in the market. The capacity of your controller is another thing you will want to take into consideration. Low priced controllers will have a limit of 6 Amps which limit you in the amount of LED Strips that you can hook up to the controller. E.g. you would not be able to hook up 10A LEDs(length depends on the power of LED strip) to a controller that can only support 6A(actually maybe <6A).

Here we recommend you to take 4*5A controllers(VT-A151) instead as it has a more adequate power and more outputs

Here is a quick breakdown of what you can achieve, depending on amperage and voltage (make sure that your power supply matches the required power for your set up):

12 Volts

6A: meters of RGB strip depends on the power each meter. just sum up and match less than the rated output.

twice 6A length that you can hook up to the controller. You cannot achieve longer lengths on 12V, even if your controller has more capacity. If your project requires more than the max rate power, use the Multi Zone system(VT-A151) or LED power repeater(VT-D401).

24 Volts and 36V

Same caculation method with 12V and 24V

Although most controller/remote kits will give you a direct access to your color, you will also find kits where you will have to cycle through the colors to get to the one of your choice. Those are referred to as sequential kits.

All controllers, regardless of price, capacity or communication protocol will offer a dimming function and various automated color change modes. We encourage you to visit the product page of the controller that interests you for more details.
